NIVA Conference 2025: A well-deserved spotlight for Milwaukee

Since the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) began writing its story, Milwaukee has played an important role. With a legacy of vibrant, grassroots venues and a tight-knit creative community, the city's independent stage network not only shapes local identity, but also serves as a blueprint for national advocacy.

The wheels have long been in motion for Milwaukee to host NIVA's 2025 conference, which is more than a gathering. It’s representative of NIVA's commitment to spotlight dynamic independent venues in cities like Milwaukee, deepen connections among industry stakeholders and propel the long-term health of grassroots live entertainment.

With the conference set to begin June 23, I sat down with NIVA executive director Stephen Parker to talk about Milwaukee's connection to the organization and why NIVA’s presence matters: to empower venues with the policy support, industry resources and meaningful connectivity they need to sustain themselves and succeed as businesses.
